Sherisse Rogers

Sherisse Rogers is an award-winning composer, bandleader, and Professor of Jazz Composition at Manhattan School of Music. Sherisse’s 2005 album “Sleight of Hand” with her big band Project Uprising, featuring Dave Liebman, received a 4.5 star review in Downbeat Magazine. Sherisse is the recipient of the 2004 ASCAP/IAJE Emerging Composer Award in honor of Count Basie, the 2005 BMI Charlie Parker Jazz Composition Award and Manny Albam Commission for her piece “Slippery Slope”, the 2006 Herb Alpert Foundation / IAJE Gil Evans Fellowship, and the 2007 Meet The Composer Van Lier Fellowship. In 2008, Sherisse was awarded the Best Composition Award by the Thelonious Monk Institute’s annual international competition for her piece “For Ones Lost”. Sherisse has written for world-renowned ensembles including the Metropole Orchestra, Frankfurt Radio HR Big Band, and Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, as well as Dave Liebman and Peter Erskine. Sherisse’s works are published by Walrus Music. Sherisse is also a well-established electric bassist with Broadway and off-Broadway credits including Hairspray, Hair, Wicked, Kinky Boots, Jersey Boys, and Summer “A Donna Summer Musical”.
