The bass was made for more than walking! Using four original works, legendary bassist Dave Young illustrates how to structure a composition to use the upright bass to its full potential.

About the Presenting Artists(s)

Dave Young is a multi-Juno-winning bassist, composer, bandleader and has collaborated with Oscar Peterson, Lenny Breau, and Cedar Walton among countless others. Young’s extensive discography as a leader include 2000’s “Tale Of The Fingers” featuring Cedar Walton and Barry Elmes, the “Side By Side” series, featuring duets with notable pianists including Tommy Flanagan, Mulgrew Miller and Barry Harris, and multiple recordings with the Dave Young-Terry Promane Octet. 2016’s “One Way Up”, featuring special guest Renee Rosnes earned a Juno nomination for Jazz Album of the Year: Group. Young’s most recent recording is 2020’s “Ides of March”, with Kevin Turcotte, Reg Schwager and Terry Clarke. Young’s extensive career as an educator as a staple member of the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music earned him the IAJE (International Association for Jazz Education) Award for “Outstanding Service to Jazz.” Young is a Member of The Order of Canada - the country’s highest civilian honour.
